International Day Celebrations 6 – International Project Management Day Celebration- 2024
The International Project Management Day 2024 celebration, organized by the Project Management Club, took place on 1st of August 2024, from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The event featured esteemed chief guests from the PMI Chapter Sri Lanka and included a variety of engaging activities. Highlights included the launch of an official video clip and newsletter, as well as the unveiling of pages of remembrances. A panel discussion with experts from PMI and Safe Foundation provided valuable insights into current trends and best practices in project management. The celebration successfully fostered a spirit of collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the project management community.

International Day Celebrations 5 – International Project Management Day Celebration – 2022
As the leading students club of the faculty, we the Project Management Club proudly organized and successfully completed our second International Project Management Day celebration function on last 20th December 2022 at SH4 hall of the Faculty of Business Studies with the theme on “Harnessing the National / International Day to promote project management actions to address the impact of climate change, economic crisis, environmental issues and energy crisis: “Remembrance for Encourage and Lead”.
The Vice Chancellor, University of Vavuniya Dr.T.Mangalesvaran, Dean, Faculty of Business Studies Dr.Y.Nanthagopan, Head, Department of Project Management Mr.S.Thirugnanasampanthar, All the staff of Faculty of Business Studies, Senior Treasurer and Advisor Mrs.S.Mathivathany were respectfully invited to enlighten the celebration. There were several invited guests joined with us to make the event fully success.
In this way, Mr.I.Selvin, Retired Senior SLAS Officer, Mr.S.Gunapalan, Additional Government Agent, Mullaitivu District, Mr.S.Senthurajah, Executive Director, SOND, Nallur, Jaffna and Mr.Dhammike, Excutive Director, Project Management Institute Sri Lanka Chapter, were invited as special guests to this celebration and presented to make the function more valuable.
Specially, there was arranged very good panel discussion and respectively Mr.S.Ravi, Mr.S.Gunapalan, Mr.S.Senthurajah, Mr.I.Selvin have been invited as Panel moderator and panelists which was conducted under the topic on “Project Sustain, Inclusiveness and Resilience”. It was add much more meaning and spirit for the succession of the function and discussed how projects should designed, implemented and monitored. Also it was as a very good lessons with practice of examples projects in Sri Lanka.
Along with, the very successful discussion and most waited event has been conducted, which is talk on “Traditional Approach to Agile Approach” conducted by Mr.Dhammike, Executive Vice-President PMI,Sri Lanka Chapter. The session led to understand the present advancement in Project Management Stream and it was source to our Project Management students to expand their knowledge in wider range.
Also, on the day of celebration function the Project Management Club has been organized the live final debate competition between final debate teams which were 4th year team and 1st year team. This particular event was more energetic for the audience. Through this competition final winners has been chosen by two invited judges Mr.Ravi and Mr.Gunapalan. 4th year debate team was won the 1st place of the competition while 1st year team holds runner-up. The Project Management Club all way tries to enhance the PM students’ capabilities and competencies through conducting this kind of competitions.
To enlighten the function there was another special event organized which was the “Exhibition”. The 3rd year and 2nd year Project Management students specially actively participated for this exhibition. The exhibition was about “Exhibiting Sri Lankas on going/successful/unsuccessful projects structure”. Out of 15 project structures finally three winners for 1st place have been chosen by judges and the winning groups are about to reward in awarding ceremony function.
During the function, the 2nd volume of Newsletter and Pages of Reminiscence launched to the Dean, Dr.Y.Nanthagopan and other invited panelists by Editor and Co-Editor of Project Management Club. Also, those publications were presented the respectful invited guests and beloved sources who are always behind the Project Management students to appreciate. Specially all the guests who participated the event were rewarded with a memento and Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Dr.Y.Nanthgopan, Head,Department of Project Management and Senior Treasurer/Advisor of Project Management Club, Mrs.S.Mathivathany also rewarded for their greatest support on the club activities.
International Day Celebrations 4 – World Malaria Day – 2022
An idea of the Ex-Co members of Project Management Club of Department of Project Management of the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Vavuniya has been organized an awareness program on World Malaria Day- 2022 on 25th Monday April 2022 from 8.30 am to 9.30 am at LH1 hall, Faculty of Business Studies with the support of Anti-Malaria Campaign and PHI, Poovarasankulam, Vavuniya.
Dr. Y. Nanthagopan, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies of University of Vavuniya was invited as the chief guest for the program. Dr.P.Sathiyalingam, University Medical Officer was invited as the special guest for the program. Awareness Talk on Malaria was given by the Regional Medical Officer, Anti Malaria Campaign, Vavuniya. Following that, EG Ershan Roy, PHI, Poovarasankulam, Vavuniya has presented on the title of “Solid Waste Management and Malaria control”. The awareness program was ended with the Vote of Thanks by Ms.M.A.D.Umanga, Vice President, PM Club in the morning.
Along with the awareness program a cleaning program in hostel premises of University of Vavuniya happened from 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm. Instead of keep students into usual work and learn frame, the president of Project Management Club and all Ex-Co members were contributed in organizing and conducting the entire awareness program session.
International Day Celebrations 3 – The Celebration of Project Management Day-2021
As the Project Management Club of the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Vavuniya has organized a Celebration of Project Management Day for the very first time in the Faculty. It was successfully held on 31st January 2022 at 10.00 am to 13.00 pm in SH4 Hall of Faculty of Business Studies, University of Vavuniya.
Dr.T.Mangalesvaran, the Vice Chancellor, University of Vavuniya, Dr.Y.Nanthagopan, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, Mr.S.Thirugnanasampanthar, Head, Department of Project Management, Heads of other departments, all the staff members of the Faculty of Business Studies, administrative staff members, students representatives from other clubs of the faculty were respectfully invited to enlighten the celebration. Dr Madhu Fernando, The Consultant, Trainer and Chairperson of the Global Institute of Project Management was cordially invited as the guest speaker for the event.
For all Project Management students, the Project Management Day Celebration was a great experience for the very first time of their university life.

Head, Department of Marketing, Mrs. MRF.Aqeela Ijas, Lecturer, Department of Human Resource Management and Mrs. Danoshana Pathmakanth, Assistant Registrar, Faculty of Business Studies served as judges for these competitions.
As per the guidelines, three winners had been selected as follows, 1st Place – Miss. M.Asriya from 2nd year, 2nd Place – Miss. S.F. Nasrin from 2nd year and 3rd Place – Mr. A.O.M.Ranush Dilshan from 1st year.
For the Celebration of Project Management Day, more than 150 students were participated. As it is a celebration organized by a student’s club, was become a greater successful. It was a new concept and a new experience for every PM student to use it as a ladder to improve their knowledge, skills, abilities rather than to frame only for academic activities.
International Day Celebrations 2 – National Safety Day
The Project Management Club of Department of Project Management jointly with the Harmony Center of University of Vavuniya and Friendly ASIA has been celebrated the NATIONAL SAFETY DAY 2021 and conducted a webinar for undergraduate students and public servants on 26th December 2021 at 3.00pm (Sri Lankan Time) via zoom platform.
Professor Dilanthi Amarathunga, BSc (Hons), PhD, FHEA, FRICS, FRGS, CMGR FCMI, Professor of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, Head, Global Disaster Resilience Centre and Ms. Anoja Seneviratne, Director, Mitigation, Research and Development Division, DMC has been invited as the guest speakers. The titles called “Risk-Informed Decision Making on Development Agenda in Pandemic Crisis” and “Mainstreaming DRR in development projects in Sri Lanka” has been presented by guest speakers respectively.
International Day Celebrations 1 – International Day For Disaster Risk Reduction -2021
The Project Management Club of Department of Project Management of University of Vavuniya has been celebrated International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction and conducted a webinar titled “DISASTER RISK REDUCTION OF DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS IN SRI LANKA” for project management students on 13th of October 2021 at 3.30pm via zoom platform. The main purpose of this webinar was to celebrate the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction and give awareness to the students regarding disaster risk reductions.
Mr.K.Sugunathas, Assistant Director, Disaster Management Centre, Trincomalee has been invited as Guest speaker of this virtual session. Specially, he has discussed about Disaster situation in Sri Lanka, how risks are occurring, which kind of risk are being occurred, how can be managed disaster risk, which kind of techniques and tools can be used, which are the challenges are faced by the development field and project managers how delt those.
