The Head of the Department of Human Resource Management, Ms. MRF. Aqeela Ijas, together with the MOU Coordinator, Ms. A. Prasheenaa, participated in the “HR Hangout” Day Programme along with two undergraduate students one from the Second Year, Mr.N.M.Nafrid with the registration number 2022/BS/181 and one from the Third Year—representing the specialization in Human Resource Management Ms. W.A.P.J.Fernando with the registration number 2021/BS/126. The programme was organized as a knowledge-sharing session by the department’s MOU partner, the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) Sri Lanka, and was held on 30th January 2026 at the CIPM Main Auditorium, Colombo.

The central component of the event was a guest lecture delivered by Ms. Thushari Premaratne, Senior Manager – IFS, on the topic “How AI is Transforming People Management.” The session provided valuable insights into the evolving role of artificial intelligence in contemporary human resource practices, highlighting its impact on decision-making, talent management and organizational effectiveness.

The guest lecture was followed by an interactive Question and Answer session, during which HR professionals and students representing various industries and universities actively engaged with the speaker. This segment facilitated meaningful discussions and enabled participants to clarify concepts, share perspectives, and enhance their understanding of emerging trends in people management.

The programme concluded with a networking session, which offered participants an opportunity to interact with professionals from diverse industries. This session supported the exchange of professional contacts and fostered relationship-building, thereby creating prospects for future collaboration and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Overall, participation in the “HR Hangout” Day Programme was a valuable academic and professional exposure for both staff and students, contributing to their understanding of current developments in the field of Human Resource Management and strengthening institutional collaboration with CIPM Sri Lanka
