The Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Business Studies, University of Vavuniya, successfully organized the Laptop Issuing Ceremony on 12 February 2026 at SH4, Faculty of Business Studies, from 9.00 a.m. onwards, with generous sponsorship from A. Baur & Co. (Pvt.) Ltd. The event aimed to support financially challenged final-year HRM specialization students by providing them with Laptops, strengthen industry–university collaboration, and enhance students’ employability through professional engagement. The program commenced with the arrival of distinguished guests and the lighting of the traditional oil lamp, followed by a welcome dance performed by students. The welcome address was delivered by Ms. M.R.F. Aqeela Ijas, Head of the Department of HRM, followed by the inaugural address by Prof. Y. Nanthagopan, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies. Senior Professor A. Atputharajah, Vice Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, delivered a special address appreciating the initiative and emphasizing the significance of industry partnerships in higher education.

The highlight of the ceremony was the distribution of laptops to five financially underprivileged final-year HRM students, which will greatly assist them in completing their academic and research work. Special remarks were delivered by Mr. Ken Vijayakumar, Senior General Manager at A. Baur & Co. (Pvt.) Ltd. and Past President of CIPM Sri Lanka, while the guest address was presented by Mr. Pujitha Senaratne, Senior Manager – Talent Acquisition & Development of A. Baur & Co. (Pvt.) Ltd., both of whom expressed their satisfaction in contributing to the student community and reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining long-term collaboration with the Department of HRM. The formal proceedings concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Ms. A. Prasheenaa, MoU Coordinator of the Department of HRM.

Following the ceremony, an hour-long Career Guidance Seminar was conducted by the officials from A. Baur & Co. (Pvt.) Ltd., attended by first-, second-, and third-year students, focusing on the development of essential soft skills, corporate expectations, professional conduct, and effective interview preparation from a recruiter’s perspective; the session was highly interactive and provided valuable practical insights. Overall, the event was a resounding success in supporting deserving students and strengthening academia–industry relations.
