FOBS Night 2023

FOBS night 2023 was celebrated on 27th October 2023 from 4.00 p.m. onward at the LH1. The theme of this evet was “Colourful Nights, Brilliant Lights: Celebrating Excellence”. The event was organized by the Students’ Union of Faculty of Business Studies. At there, students from final year of the faculty were awarded the champion of the FOBS week. The 2nd place was won by the third year students and 3rd place was awarded for second year students.

Awarding Ceremony for Exco members of the Accounting and Finance Club

An awarding ceremony of appreciation to Exco members of the Accounting and Finance Club of the Faculty of Business Studies was organised by the Accounting and Finance Club on 25th October 2023, to honour the services of the members rendered to the Club.

The Navaratri Pooja -2023

The Navaratri Pooja was commemorated by the Hindu Union of the Faculty, University of Vavuniya, Sri Lanka, in the Lecture Hall – 1 from 15th October 2023, and the Vaani Vizha was celebrated on 24th October 2023, at the faculty.

Faculty of Business Studies Week (FOBS week)

Faculty of Business Studies Week-2023 was held by the Students’ Union of the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Vavuniya, from 11th to 24th October 2023. It included sport events such as Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess, Carom, Football, Cricket, Kabaddi, Elle, Volleyball, Netball, jumping events, and Running events. And, soft skills competition such as singing, drama, debates and special talents events including poem, art, essay writing were held. All the winners were awarded at the FOBS Nights 2023.

Workshop Series 09

The Project Management Club conducted workshop series 09 on “Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Measures in Development Projects for the Sustainable Developments in Sri Lanka” to renowned the World Disaster Risk Reduction Day-2023 on 11th October 2023.

Student Achievement

The mora lenz announcing competition was conducted across the island wide among all the universities by the University of Moratuwa. Among 1000 participant, A. Fathima Farwin was selected in to the 10 finalised competitors. The grand final was held at the University of Moratuwa on 16th September 2023. Under the Tamil Announcing final round she won Mora Lenz Media award for the All-Island Inter-University Tamil Announcing category.

Shramdana Campaign

The Accounting and Finance Club organised a Shramdana activity on 30th August 2023 in the University premises. Students of all years participated in this event. The objective of this activity was to create awareness about the need to keep the environment clean and manage waste.

5S System implementation by Marketing Club

The 5S Project was implemented by the Marketing Club on 28th August 2023 at Soosairatnam Block. Many students of the Faculty participated and benefited from the programme.

Cultural food Carnival

The Project Management Club jointly with the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Divisional Secretariat, Vavuniya District organised a Vibrant and Enriching Event for the entire community. It was celebrated as a Cultural Food Carnival on 21th August 2023.

School bag donation

The Accounting and Finance Club of the Faculty arranged school bag donations to school students under the social work project. Twenty students were studying at Tharanikkulam Ganesh Vidyalaya in Vavuniya and were selected for the donation. The programme was successfully held on 17th August 2023, at the school with the support of the club members, principal, and staff.

Mini Market Stall

The Marketing Club arranged a “Mini Market Stall” from the 16th to 28th August 2023 at the faculty premises. Many students and faculty staff and other faculty members of the University participated in the programme.

A/L Economics Past Paper Discussion by Econ club

A/L Economics Past papers discussion program of “Economic Insights -2023” was conducted by second-year Econ Club members from 10th August to 28th August 2023. The purpose of this program was to help advanced-level students review past A/L papers. Dr. N. Ravinthirakumaran, senior lecturer and senior treasurer of the Econ club, Faculty of Business Studies, University of Vavunia, Sri Lanka, facilitated the programme to hold it successfully.

The Pirith Chanting Ceremony (religious event) was organized by Students’ Union of faculty of Business Studies from 19th August at night to 20th August 2023 at morning.

Drug Prevention Street Drama

Human Resource Club organised the Street Drama of Arangalaya on 19th August 2023, in front of the TCL, Faculty of Business Studies. It was a dynamic and immersive programme to provide insight into drug prevention to the audience. The Director, Mr Jeyaraj Thanujan, Cric lk, Pandiruppu, sponsored this event.

Webinar

The Marketing club organized a webinar on “Digital Integrated Supply Chain”, which was held at the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Vavuniya, on 18th August 2023. Mr. K.M. Veeramani, Deputy General Manager of Sourcing & Supply Chain at Ashok Leyland Limited, India, participated as the resource person for this webinar.

Well-being First Webinar

The Econ Club conducted this webinar program on 16th August 2023 from 1.00p.m to 2.00p.m in SH 4 Hall for all the Faculty of Business Studies students under the Health and Safety Practices program. The purpose of this program was to improve the students’ mental and physical well-being. The resource person was Mr. Sujan Sugumaran is a medical student and lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Coconut Kulukki Juice Stall

The Coconut ‘Kulukki’ Juice Stall was established by the HR club, on 16th August 2023, near the Faculty of Business Studies canteen. It was a delightful and refreshing experience to provide the participants with a natural and delicious treat to beat the heat.

Stationary Items Donation Program

The Econ Club donated stationery items (Books, Pencils, Erasers, Colour Pencils, Pencil cases and School bags) to the students of Vau/Selvavinayaga Vidayalam in Vauniya on 09th August 2023 under the community works. This event aimed to help poor children, develop the students’ education and build successful citizens in Sri Lanka. The programme was successfully organised with the active participation and contribution of the club members and lecturers of the Econ Club. Funds raised from the Econ Club were used for the donation.

PM Cluster Programme-Series 2

The PM Cluster Program, held on 09th August 2023 was a significant event that brought together students and faculty members from the Project Management Club (PM Club). The event occurred at the LH01 Hall and was organised to foster knowledge sharing, creativity, and a sense of community among the participants.

The Second Annual Kite Festival

The Marketing Club commemorated the 2nd Annual Kite Festival on 06th August 2023, at the University Playground, Pampaimadu, Vavuniya, Sri Lanka.

5S System and beautification activities

The 5S system was implemented by the Human Resource Club, Faculty of Business Studies, University of Vavuniya from 15th July 2023 to 10th August 2023, in Balakrishnan Block and beautified the Department of HRM and Faculty premises. The beautification activity contributed to creating a more pleasant and friendly environment. Additionally, regular maintenance and expansion of the beautification efforts were being prioritised. Eco-friendly drinking water clay pots, bottle plants with stones, posters, name boards, cement plant pots and photos were used for indoor décor and outside decor, ‘Punga’ Tree and Christina plant were used. Also, numbering the fans and lights, safety and preventive measures, non-verbal signs and waste management are used for the 5S system. Cleaning, maintaining and watering the plants were assigned to the students’ batch-wise on a roster basis to maintain sustainability.

Beautification of the Faculty (photography area)

The Accounting and Finance Club implemented the creation of the photo zone at the University. The primary objective of this project was to beautify the university environment. The area chosen was beside the library premises and behind Balakrishnan Hall. All the members of the Finance and Accounts Department contributed to the project to create this photography area.

Digital Aid 2nd Program

Digital Aid-2 Program in Commerce was organised by the accounting club on 01st August 2023. It was conducted in both Sinhala and Tamil medium by second-year students. The programme was shown to improve the knowledge of the ordinary-level students in commerce subject.

Annual Friendly Elle Match

Annual Friendly Elle Match 2023 was organized by Students’ Union of faculty of Business Studies on 28th July 2023, at university ground.

Food Festival

The Economic Club of the Faculty of Business Studies celebrated a Food Festival on 27th July 2023, from 11.00 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. at the faculty premises. Dean, lecturers and students of the faculty and other faculties of the university participated in the programme.

Books Swap Program

The book exchange program was held on 27th July 2023, at the Department of Business Economics from 12.30 p.m. to 1.30 p.m. This program aimed to assist the faculty juniors in collecting notes and papers from their seniors and to enhance mutual support between students of all years. Econ Club Exco members have collected notes from 06th July to 25th July 2023, and handed them over to the juniors.

Workshop Series 04 – Social Impact Assessment (SIA)

A Highly Insightful Session on “Social Impact Assessment for Projects” was organised by the Project Management Club on 26th July 2023. Mr Thevarajah Krishnarajah, a renowned Community Development and Social Safeguard Expert, Senior Social Officer, and Gender Expert, participated in honouring the event.

Holi Festival – 2023

A Holi Festival – 2023 was organised by the Marketing Club of the Faculty of Business Studies on 24th July 2023, at the faculty. The students at the Faculty colourfully celebrated the day.

Book Donation Drive – 2023

A Book Donation Drive programme was held on 19th July 2023, for Vavuniya Schools students of Four deserving schools: V/ Al Aksha Maha Vidyalam, V/ Etambagaskada Vidyalaya, V/ Nedunkulam GSMS and V/Velikulam High Tamil Mixed School under the theme of “Empowering Young Minds through Education”. The Marketing Club, Faculty of Business Studies, University of Vavuniy arranged the programme successfully in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM).

Project Management Club, Faculty of Business Studies, University of Vavuniya, Sri Lanka, arranged Two Cluster Programmes on 19th July 2023, for the students and faculty members.

Awareness Program

The Econ Club conducted an awareness program on 19th July 2023, in the BH2 hall to explain what opportunities are available for the BBM (Hons) in the Business Economics degree program. All the second-year, third-year and fourth-year students participated in this program.

At this event, Mrs P. Godwin Phillip, Head of the Department of Business Economics, made an introductory speech. Dr N. Ravinthirakumaran delivered a speech on the importance of university education and getting to know a wider variety of people. Furthermore, Miss.P.K.G.A.Nayanakanthi, President of the Econ Club, gave a speech to the students on the benefits of the Degree program.

Grooming Noon Event

Human Resource Club, Faculty of Business Studies, organised a grooming noon event for females and males on 19th July 2023, at the Soosairatnam Block, FBS.

Tot Bag Sell

The students of the Econ Club organised a tot bag-selling programme to encourage young entrepreneurs and increase the club funds between July and August 2023.

Kristina Park

The Accounting and Finance Club started to make a Kristina Park at the University premises. The project was initiated on 01st July 2023. The major aim of this project was to beautify the infrastructure of the University. The area is in front of the library premises, and Soosairathnam Hall was selected for the project. All the batches of the Department of Finance and Accounting of the Faculty contributed to and supported this project. Many plants were planted and assigned 2nd-year students to maintain it.

Flower Arch Lane Project

This is one of the green projects organised by the Accounting and Finance Club, Faculty of Business Studies, from the first week of June 2023 to 31st August 2023, to construct the flower arch to beautify the lane for taking photos in front of the library of the University.

Placing Directional Sign Boards
The Marketing Club placed directional sign boards within the Faculty of Business Studies premises on June 15, 2023. This activity helps students, staff, especially visitors/invitees to navigate places or orient themselves in a physical environment.
Launch of Web-Based Job Bank
Job bank under the name of “University of Vavuniya Smart Jobs” was officially launched by the HR Club, Department of HRM on 7th of June 2023 at 208th faculty board, by the Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, Head of the Department, Prof.V. Sivalogathasan and Senior Treasurer of the HR Club. It is beneficial to the job seekers and the employers who are looking for the new recruitments to speed up the process in finding new opportunities. The primary purpose of the Web- Based Job Bank is initiating to carry out series of activities that enrich students’ exposure in the job market. The activities expected to be carried out by this website to provide a platform where the employer and potential candidates can meet each other. This Job Bank caters the students’ personal and professional paths to construct the basement to achieve their career objectives.
Online Quiz Competition Series 03
The Project Management Club arranged an Online Quiz Competition majoring in the project management stream for all first, second, third year project management students on 26th May 2023 through LMS in Career Guidance, Regional Planning and Capstone Project. Three winners were chosen from each batch. The winners are: 2020/PM/21, 2020/PM/31, 2020/PM/91, 2019/PM/33, 2019/PM/41, 2019/PM/19, 2018/PM/25, 2018/PM/58 and 2018/PM/36.The purpose of conducting such a competition is to guide the students for their examination and refresh their learning subjects to get a better results.
“Showing the Thoovanam movie to students, staff, and outside people.”
The Project Management Club organized a fundraising activity by showing Thoovanam, a Sri Lankan Tamil movie, to the university students, staff, and outside people through selling tickets. It was telecast in two different slots in different places: for university people in Applied Science Faculty smart lecture hall at the University of Vavuniya, for outside people, in Amudha theater Vavuniya. Thoovanam is a Sri Lankan Tamil film directed by Dr. Shivasuthan, and all the cast and crew of this movie are from Sri Lanka. This movie totally covers the Sri Lankan Tamil people’s tradition and culture. As a project management club, we intended to raise social awareness among students and other people by showing this movie. This fund-raising activity with earnings of 50,500 LKR from tickets and selling beverages and snacks inside and outside the university was successfully completed.
Career Development and Investment in Banking
A webinar was organized by the Accounting and Finance Club on the topic of Career development and investment in banking. It was held on the 17th of May 2023 via Zoom. The webinar was conducted by T.Kokulan , Executive Officer, Commercial Bank, Vavuniya Branch. The objective of the webinar was expanding the career and investment ideas of students at University of Vavuniya.
Drug Prevention Program
In May 2023, the Econ Club of Business Economics organized a drug prevention program which was led by Mr. M.M.G.B Rashad (North and East province coordinator, National Dangerous Drug Control Board, Ministry of Defense) to inform and update the community about the consequences of drug use and drug trafficking in an era of rampant drug trafficking and drug use. We are grateful to Mr. Rashad for conducting this program. This event was successfully conducted with the guidence of Mrs. Paulina Godwin, Dr N. Ravinthirakumaran, and Mr. Anton Manikkarasa.
Diet for Life, An Exclusive Interview

The HR Club conducted an exclusive online interview on “Diet for life.” on 10th May 2023 via zoom. DT. F. S. Shamil Fowzad, Clinical Nutritionist, Base Hospital, Kalmunai North was invited as the resource person for the event. The objectives of the interview were to encourage a communicative, collaborative and collegial through activities, giving a clear knowledge about diet and its practices, giving understandings on how to follow a proper diet plan in reality for a better life and clarifying doubts on practicing diet in life. The program was an interactive session. The students clarified their all doubts regarding diet in the discussion time.

The interview was successfully completed with the full cooperation of all the students, members and staff of the Human Resource Management Department.

A Film Festival (Avatar 2)
A film festival was conducted by the Finance and Accountancy club, on 10th of May 2023. It was held at Soosairetnam Block (SH4) at 1.30pm. The objective of the program was, Fund raising. Totally 220 students participated in the program.
Lottery Raffle Draw
The Marketing Club generated fund through a lottery raffle by selling tickets within the university and outside people. The event was held in the Board room of Faculty of Business Studies on the 3rd of May 2023 at 9.00 am with the presence of Prof.T. Mangaleswaran, the Vice Chancellor of University of Vavuniya, Dr.Y. Nanthagopan, Dean of Faculty of Business Studies, Mr.B. Balathas, Assistant Bursar of University of Vavuniya, Heads of the Departments, Assistant Registrar, staff and students of the faculty. The first prize winner is Mrs.V. Kajanthy the second prize winner is Mr.N.Vinushan and the third prize winner is Mrs.K.Navanathan.
An Ice Cream Store
An ice cream store was opened by the Accountancy and Finance Club for the refreshment of all the students and staff at the AWURUDU FUNCTION (Sinhala and Tamil new year Function) which was held at the University of Vavuniya playground on the 29th of April 2023. The objective of that store was “FUND RAISING“ for educational activities at University of Vavuniya. A significant amount of fund was collected by selling ice cream and Juice.
Webinars
The Marketing Club conducted webinars on “Social Media Marketing”, “Facebook Ads Manager and Facebook Ads Campaign” and “Social Media Marketing Research” on 18th of April, 10th of May and 24th of May, 2023 respectively via Zoom. Mr. D. M. R. Dissanayake, Social Media Community Manager at Roy’s Villa Hotel served as the resource person.
Workshop Series 05 Guide to the Capstone Projects
The Project Management Club organized the workshop series 05 “Guide to the Capstone projects” via zoom platform on 04th April 2023. The guest speaker for this webinar was Dr. Y. Nanthagopan, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies at the University of Vavuniya. This workshop prominently focused on final-year project management student’s capstone projects and guided them towards the successful completion of their undertaken capstone projects. In this workshop, he discussed what a capstone project is and how to work on it. The resource person provided the knowledge about this field and gave ideas for working on capstone projects.
All the first year, second year, third year Project Management students, assistant lecturers also actively participated to this workshop.
Workshop Series 04 Practical Usage of Progect Management in IT Industries
The Project Management Club organized the workshop series 04 titled “PRACTICAL USAGE OF PROGECT MANAGEMENT IN IT INDUSTRIES” via zoom platform on 15th March 2023. The guest speaker of this webinar was Mr.Aathif Nihas. He is working as a project manager at Codegen international who discussed about what is project management and how it works in this current situation of Sri Lanka and in the Codegen international as well.
Workshop Series 03 Stepping into IT Project Management
The Project Management Club organized the workshop series 03 titled “Stepping into it Project Manangement” via zoom platform on 26th February 2023. The guest speaker of this webinar was Mr.Vidura Bandara, a project and operation manager at the AI team who provided knowledge about IT related project management and how it works in this current situation of Sri Lanka. He discussed about the 10 knowledge areas of project management according to the PMBOK 6 and difference between agile and waterfall approaches.
Vehicle Wash
“Vehicle Wash” was conducted by the HR club on 22nd of February 2023 from 12.30 P.M. – 5.30 P.M. The main purpose of this project is to generate fund for the future activities of the HR Club. Further, through this event the students were able to actively engage in the activities and boost their team coordination. This event also gave an opportunity to motivate students through extracurricular activities for a different exposure and to bring out the students’ personality and form a great platform to practice tolerance, building friendship and teamwork. University staff benefited the service and the outsiders also extended their support and this program was successfully completed with the full cooperation of everyone.
An Awareness Program on Obtaining a New Driving License for Light Vehicles
The Marketing Club organized an awareness program on “Obtaining New Driving License for Light Vehicles” on 15th February 2023. Ms. Archana, Managing Officer of Manju Driving School and the employees of Manju Driving School such as Mr. Udayan, Ms. Rasakumari and Mr. Dusyanthan, were served as resource persons. They explained the process of getting a driving license and the main benefits of getting a driving license with them. It was an effective awareness program especially for the students who are looking for driving license during their education days in Vavuniya.
Webinar on “Creating Professional Documents Using Microsoft Word, an Express drive.”
The HR Club conducted a webinar, titled “Creating Professional Documents Using Microsoft Word, an Express drive” on 4th February 2023 via zoom. Mr. M. Mohammed Shiraj, Senior Lecturer in Information Technology, Department of Management, Faculty of Management & Commerce, South Eastern University of Sri Lanka was invited as the Resource Person for the event. Through this webinar, the participants were able to gain understanding on creating the professional documents using Microsoft Word, gained the idea about the importance of creating professional documents using Microsoft Word in the cooperate range.
Corn Sale
A corn sale project was organized by the Econ Club on Wednesday, 25th January 2023 at 10.30 a.m. outside the canteen of the Faculty of Business Studies. Dr Y Nanthagopan, Dean of Business Studies, Mrs. Paulina Godwin Philip, Head, Department of Business Economics and the senior lecturers, Dr N. Ravinthirakumaran, Mr. A. Thayaparan, and other lecturers participated and supported the project enthusiastically. Economic Club members and students actively participated. Rs. 12,150 profit was gained.
The Documentary Short Film Competition
The HR Club conducted documentary short film competition (open) on 10th of December 2022 and it was given one-month duration to collect the short films. Mr.A.M. Ashfaque, Freelance Film maker and Researcher was the evaluator.
Following short films were awarded.

  • First place for “Viramana” by Gavindu Deesura from Kalutara.
  • Second place for “The face” by Pathum Mahagama from Nuwara-Eliya.
  • Third place for “Tea” or “Coffee” by Gavindu Deesura from Kalutara.

International Project Management Day Celebration by PM Club

The   Project    Management    Club   successfully    conducted    the International Project Management Day on 20″‘ December 2022 at SH4 of the Faculty of Business Studies. The theme is “Harnessing the National/ international Day to promote project management actions to address the impact of climate change, economic crisis, environmental issues and energy crisis”. Mr. I.Selvin, Retired Senior SLAS Officer, Mr. S.Gunapalan, Additional  Government Agent, Mullaitivu District, Mr. S.Senthurajah. Executive Director, SOND, Nallur, Jaffna and Mr. Dhammike, Executive Director, Project Management Institute Sri Lanka Chapter, were invited as special guests to this celebration and made the function more valuable.

To enlighten the function there was another special event organized which was the “Exhibition”. The 3rd year and 2nd year Project management students especially actively participated in this exhibition. The exhibition was on “Exhibiting Sri Lanka’s ongoing/successful/unsuccessful projects structure”. Out of 15 project structures finally, three winners were selected by judges and the winning groups were rewarded in awarding ceremony function.

During the function, the 2nd volume of Newsletter and Pages of Reminiscence were launched by Editor and Co-Editor of Project Management Club. The copies were issued to the Dean, Dr. Y.Nanthagopan, invited panelists, the respected invited guests and beloved sources who are always behind the success of the Project Management students. Specially all the guests who participated in the event were rewarded with a memento. The Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, the Head, Department of Project Management and senior Treasurer, Advisor of Project Management Club were also rewarded for their greatest support to the club activities.

Sumadura Dhamma Ceremony 2022 by Student’s Union
The Sumadura dhamma ceremony was organised by the student’s Union, Faculty of Business Studies on 14th November 2022 from 7.00p.m to 9.00p.m in LH 1 Hall, Faculty of Business Studies, University of Vavuniya.
A webinar on CV preparation and Interview Etiquette by HR Club

A webinar on CV preparation and interview Etiquette was held on 09th of November 2022 from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm via zoom which was organized by die HR Club, Faculty of Business Studies. Tharindu Weerasinghe, Senior Lecturer, Department of HRM, Faculty of Commerce and management Studies, University of Kelaniya served as the resource person. The webinar supported the students to learn how to prepare the CV and to face job interview.

 

Accounting Day Quiz Competition by Accounting and Finance Club

A quiz competition was organized by the Accounting and Finance Club to celebrate Accounting Day -2022 for the very first time, it was held on the 26th of October, 2022 in the BH-4 of the Faculty of Business Studies. 93 students were participated in the Quiz Competition. The first three winners Will be awarded the certificate on the Accounting Day.

A Workshop on “Automatically generate references & citations through Mendeley Reference Manager Software” by Marketing Club

The Marketing Club organized a workshop for final year students of Business Studies (FBS) on “Automatically Generate References & Citations through Mendeley Referencing Software” at the Teaching Lab of FBS on 26”Ocrober 2022 from 1.30 pm to 3.00 pm. The workshop was facilitated by Mrs. V.Kajanthy, Lecturer, Department of  Marketing Management, FBS.

Diwali Celebration 2022 by Student’s Union
The Diwali celebration was organised by the Student’s Union Faculty of Business Studies on the 22nd of October at the university playground. All the students from the faculty participated in the celebration and cultural programmes.
FOBS’ Week by Student’s Union
FOBS week inter-faculty sports meet was organized by the Student’s Union Faculty of Business Studies on 22nd October 2022 and which was followed by one week. The colours night was celebrated on 5th of November 2022 in LH 1 and at the university playground.
Cleaning Campaign Herbal Nature Park by PM Club

The project management club conducted a cleaning campaign in the area of herbal nature park on 19th October 2022. The major goal of this program is to protect nature and to keep the environment clean. All project management students from all four batches contributed in this cleaning campaign.

A Webinar on “Awareness on Stock Market for University Students” by Marketing Club

The Marketing Club of the Faculty of Business Studies organized a webinar on “Awareness session on stock market for university students” in Tamil and Sinhala medium on 15th of October, 2022 from 9.00am to 10.30am and from 2.00 pm to 3.30 pm. Mr. S.Sabanathan, Manager, Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE), Jaffna Branch and Mr. Lasantha C.Kumara, Executive officer, CSE Rathnapura Branch were the resource persons.

EDU-AID seminar for advanced level commerce stream students by Econ Club

The Econ club organized an Edu-Aid seminar in Economics on 13th of October 2022 (Thursday) between from 8:30 am to 01:30 pm, at the smart classroom of Vavuniya Tamil Mathiya Maha Vidhyalayam. The discussion in this seminar was given by Mr. Madhushankar, 4th year student form the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Vavuniya.

Miss. Subapriya Mohanaraja president of the Econ club, Department of Business Economics chaired the session and Mr. A. Thayaparan, Senior lecturer, Department of Business Economics delivered the welcome address. Mr. Madhushankar discussed an economic model paper with students. He discussed 50 MCQ questions with the students. Hard copies of the model papers were given by the club to the students.

We received good responses from the students and staff. Also, they gave very good feedback. The teacher and school student representative thanked the Econ club for arranging the seminar Mr T. Sathiyaseelan, an Advanced Level Economic teacher, V.T.M.M.V delivered the vote of thanks. He thanked the resource person, Club members participants and other officials for their active support in making the program to be successful.

Nawarathri Celebrations by Hindu Union

The Nawarathri, a religious festival was organized by the Hindu Union, Faculty of Business Studies from 26th of September to 5th of October at the faculty. All the staff and students from the faculty participated in the celebration and cultural programs.

A Webinar on “Research Philosophy and Approaches” by Marketing Club

The Marketing Club of the Faculty of Business Studies has organized a webinar on “Research Philosophy and Approaches” on 16″ of September, 2022. Mr. Swamipillai Aravinth Thevarajan was the resource person, Lecturer at SLIIT, Jaffna and a trainer of SIYB.

He disseminated his vast knowledge on the webinar topic through an interactive way. Almost 40 students took in chis webinar. It was a useful webinar especially for the students who are currently engaged in research work for their partial requirement of completing their degree.

Clothe drive – donation by Econ Club

Econ club collected cloths and shoes for “Cloth Drive” donation program from 1st of September to 15th of October 2022 at the Department of   Business Economics.  Cloth Drive team received more than 150 cloths and a few pair of shoes/ sandals from academic staff and students.  35 packages were made by the Econ club and distributed to 20 families in Poovarsankulam, Veerapuram, Arbathnagar, Chettikulam, Pambaimadu and Salambaikulam. Each package includes two ladies’ dresses, two shirts, two kids’ dresses, one pair or sandal/ slipper/ shoe.

CBSL webinar on public debt management by Econ club
The Econ club organized a webinar on “Public debt management” on 25th of August 2022, through the Microsoft team’s platform. The webinar was given by Ms. Fernando LS, Regional office- Kilinochchi, Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Mrs. Paulina Godwin Philip, Senior lecturer and the Head, Department of Business Economics chaired the session and delivered welcome address. Ms. Fernando LS delivered a lecture on the topic “Public Debt Management”. She explained about the importance of public debt management etc. She specifically focused on Government securities Market, and Government debt. At the end of the webinar Ms. R. Thulashika, Kilinochchi Regional office delivered the vote of thanks.
Launch of Silver Jubilee Video by Marketing Club
A video of the Faculty of Business Studies was made for the purpose of publishing on die Silver Jubilee Day on 4th of July, 2022 by the Marketing Club.
Mini Market Stall
Mini market stall was set up by the Marketing Club students on 4th of July by targeting the people who came for the Silver Jubilee Celebration and RCBS Conference – 2022. Cloths, Fresh Juice and Sweet Biscuits were sold. Both students and the Club got benefitted because of this fund generated activity.
Kite Festival
The Marketing Club organized a kite festival- 2022 on 26th June at the playground of the University of Vavuniya. There were 25 kites were flown. Dr. T. Mangaleswaran and DE Nanthagopan participated as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honor respectively. The Sponsors, Bursar, Assistant Registrar, Academics, Non-academics and students also participated. Cash prizes were given to first three places as Rs. 10,000, Rs. 5000 and Rs. 3,000 respectively. In addition, five consolation prizes were given.
Project Management Competencies for Sustainable Professional evaluation
The Project Management Club essentially pointed out to organize a workshop through online base. Therefore, it organized its workshop series 02 “PROJECT MANAGEMENT COMPETENCIES FOR SUSTAINABLE PROFESSIONAL EVALUATION” via zoom platform on 24th June 2022 from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm.
Mr.Aruna Jayalal Kooragamage, Authorized Training Parmer, Instructor, PMP of PMI USA participated as the guest speaker. During the session the guest speaker effectively concentrated with students’ thoughts and therefore the students’ engagement was also high. All the freshers, first year, second year and third year Project Management students actively participated in the workshop. While conducting the questionnaire session, students’ engagement was greatly highlighted. Over 150 of Project Management students’ participation the workshop series 02 was successfully completed.
Bus halt painting and drawing
The project was conducted on 18th of June 2022. The project was successfully completed with the full cooperation of all the students, members and staff of the HR Club of the Department of Human Resource Management with the aim of creating a partnership between students, faculty and staff and providing a means for community engagement. This project will be useful to the public and students.
Photography Competition Season 01, 2022
The season 01 of the photography competition series of the year 2022 was organized under the theme of “Current Economic Crisis in Sri Lanka” on 6th of June 2022 by the Project Management Club of the FBS. The lines for the petrol and changing pattern into the bicycle without petrol for the transportation were considered as main context in this competition. Three winners for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places were selected among more than 50 Participants.
The specialty of the competition is, more than 80% of photos were received from outside participants. Also, like were done previous season each photograph was judged and evaluated by Mr.Ishaq. To continue the formality and uniqueness we believe engaging with field experts add more value for these programs.

Online Quiz Competition
QUIZ COMPETITION was arranged by the Project Management Club for all first-, second-, and third-year students majoring in the project management stream. The competition was held via university LMS. Following were the three days when the competition was held: 1st year students — 21/05/2022, 2nd year students – 26/05/2022 and 3rd year students – 27/05/2022 with more than 180 participants. The main purpose of conducting such competitions is to guide the students for their examination and refresh their learning subjects to gain better results and it would be helpful to students for a better engagement with their studies.
The first, second, and third places, respectively, were the winning places. Three winners were chosen from each batch. S. Sasikumar achieved the top spot among first-year students (2019/2020) with an 82.5 grade, while M. Dishan and K. A. A. N. Kiththanpahuwa won second and third places, respectively, with the similar grade of 77.5. D.Srikandaraja, a student in the second-year batch (2018/2019), won first place with 83.6 marks, followed by S. Yadharshika and I Tharan, who placed second and third, respectively. with 79.6 and 75.6 grades. Among the third-year batch (2017/2018), A.A. Fathima Haseefa got first place with the highest score of 100, while Z. Farook and S. Rajini both came in second with the same grade of 88. The winners have been commenced on 31st May 2022.
Experience Gained in Formulation and Execution of Foreign Funded Project
The Project Management Club conducted a workshop, series 01 “Experience Gained in Formulation and Execution of Foreign Funded Project” on 26th April 2022 from 1.30pm to 4.30 pm at SH4 lecture hall. Dr. (Eng.) S.S. Sivakumar, Senior Lecturer, Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna was invited as the Resource Person for the event.
All the first year, second year and third year Project Management students actively participated in the workshop. Rather than engaging with theoretical knowledge of project execution, being corporate with the subjects in practical way such workshops influence students to think and see over the limited frame. Also, it inspired participants to further explore it on their own in any project fields. It was a great way to teach hands-on skills as it gives learners an opportunity to try out new methods in project environment. Students requested to conduct further workshop in future to get practical experiences. Over 180 students’ participation, the workshop series 01 was successfully completed.

Shramadana Campaign
Since there are number of eds of implementing community engagement activities, the Project Management Club organized an essential SHRAMADANA CAMPAIGN on 25th April 2022 from 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm at the hostel premises of Vavuniya University with the contribution of all the 1st year, 2nd year and 3rd year students from the Department of Project Management.
The selected area for the campaign is both boys’ and girls’ hostel premises. The purpose of organizing this project with the contribution of undergraduate students, to let them aware of the neediness of keeping the environment cleanly and to let them feel about responsibility that they have to do as a human. With a concept of “HUMAN CAN PROTECT HUMAN” they implemented the project successfully. Also, instead of keeping students with usual work and learn frame, make an awareness on their mind about the environment was the main purpose of conducting this program.
Awareness Program on World Malaria Day
The Project Management Club organized a physical awareness program on World Malaria Day- 2022 on 25th April 2022 from 8.30 am to 9.30 am at LH1 hall, Faculty of Business Studies with the support of Anti-Malaria Campaign and PHI, Poovarasankulam, Vavuniya.
On behalf of the faculty Dr.Y.Nanthagopan was invited as the Chief Guest and Dr.PSathiyalingarn, University Medical Officer was invited as the Special Guest for the program. Awareness Talk on Malaria was given by Dr.S.Prasanth the Regional Medical Officer, Anti Malaria Campaign, Vavuniya. Following that, EG Ershan Roy, PHI, Poovarasankulam, Vavuniya presented on the title of “Solid Waste Management and Malaria control”.
Tree plantation event
Tree plantation event was organized by the Econ club on 22nd April 2022. This event was done for earth day. All the students from the Department of Economics plant in their homes and post the photos on Econ Club’s Facebook page. The objective of the project is to promote planting among students and society.
Supporting differently abled people
The Marketing Club visited to VAROD on March 1, 2022 with twenty students and five staff members from the Department of Marketing Management and organized a program to support disabled persons inhabited in VAROD in Vavuniya. It has been running since 2009 under the management of the Claretian community. At present around 80 disabled people are being cared by them. A Siramadhana campaign was carried out by the students by clearing the shrublands around the VAROD premises.

Project Management Day Celebration
The Project Management Club organized a Celebration of Project Management Day for the year 2021 at the faculty on 31st January 2022. Dr.T.Mangalcswaran, the Vice Chancellor, University of Vavuniya, Dr.Y.Nanthagopan, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, Mr.S.Thirugnanasampanthar, Head, Department of Project Management, Heads of other departments, all the staff members of the Faculty of Business Studies, administrative staff members, students’ representatives from other clubs of the faculty were respectfully invited to enlighten the celebration. Dr. Madhu Fernando, The Consultant, Trainer and Chairperson of the Global Institute of Project Management was cordially invited as the guest speaker for the event. The PM Club had a number of activities on the day and launched the special initiatives, including:

At the end part of the program all the winners and active members were awarded by Dr.Y.Nanthagopan. More than 150 students were participated in this program. It was a new concept and a new experience for every Project Management student to use it as a ladder to improve their knowledge, skills, abilities rather than to frame only for academic activities.

The life of Giving
The Project Management Club of the Faculty conducted a community enrichment project on 28th January 2022. Through this project, learning materials for primary grades of AI/ Aysha Vidyalayam were provided. More than LKR.5000 worth of students learning materials were provided and the poor students were selected as beneficiaries of this project as named Life of Giving. The Ex-Co members of Project Management Club, the principal Mr.M. Faizel and other staff members and students of the school were joined this event. The ultimate purpose of the event was to serve the poor students who are actually suffering with the lack of facilities to study even their primary education. “Life of Giving” will not end with one project and the Project Management Club is ready to launch more projects to strengthen our community.
Supporting the school students
The Marketing Club organized a project on “Supporting the School Students” with the help of Thirunelvely circle Lions Club who sponsored Rs. 25,200. The Club members have identified 42 students from different districts and given stationary items for the value of Rs. 600 per head. This project was executed on 15th and 16th of January, 2022.
Photography Competition Season 02, 2021
The Project Management Club proudly commenced the second season of the photography competition of the year 2021 on 12th January 2022. The theme was “Pandemic and Daily Life” since many of our lives are changed due to pandemic, so we wanted to know the changes as creativities from talented photographers. The total number of participants were 35, among them three winners were selected and rewarded them.
To protect the uniqueness of the event we invited Mr.lshaq as the judge of the competition. According to the statement of the judge, three criteria respectively considered for the evaluation and meaning of the photos, composition and angled setup of photos. The competition was a great achievement since most participants participated from outside of the university for this season.

A webinar on “National Safety Day 2021, Sri Lanka” by the PM Club
The Project Management Club jointly with the Harmony Center of University of Vavuniya and Friendly ASIA conducted a webinar on NATIONAL SAFETY DAY 2021 for undergraduate students and public servants on 26th December 2021 via zoom platform.
Professor Dilanthi Amarathunga, Professor of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, Head, Global Disaster Resilience Centre and Ms. Anoja Seneviratne, Director, Mitigation, Research and Development Division, DMC were invited as the guest speakers. The titles called “Risk-Informed Decision Making on Development Agenda in Pandemic Crisis” and “Mainstreaming DRR in development projects in Sri Lanka” were presented by the guest speakers respectively.
Further, a question-and-answer session was also held. It was made a higher value to the webinar series and specially students were mostly benefited through this session. There were more than 150 participations. This valuable webinar provided a huge approach to the students gain their knowledge in Disaster Management and Risk Reduction. Especially this webinar was helpful to the students to understand that how exactly the disaster risk reduction programs practically applied and got to know that even in the pandemics how to make suitable development decisions.
A webinar on “Pave your own way in the digital world” by the Marketing Club
The Marketing Club of the Faculty of Business Studies organized a webinar on “Pave your own way in the digital world” on 15th of October, 2021. Mr. Sharanyan Sharma was the resource person who is an award-winning entrepreneur in the digital business and a certified digital marketing trainer. He shared his evolutionary progress of success in the digital business and explained the importance of digital marketing in an ever-challenging world. Almost 175 students participated in this webinar. It was a valuable session for the students, especially those who are specialized in marketing management.
“Disaster risk reduction of development projects in Sri Lanka” by the Project Management club
The Project Management Club conducted a webinar titled “Disaster risk reduction of development projects in Sri Lanka” for project management students on 13th of October 2021 via zoom platform. The main purpose of this webinar was to celebrate the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction and give awareness to the students regarding disaster risk reductions.
Mr.K.Sugunathas, Assistant Director, Disaster Management Centre, Trincomalee, was invited as a Guest speaker of this virtual session. Especially, he discussed about Disaster situation in Sri Lanka, how risks are occurring, what kind of risks are being occurred, how can be managed disaster risk, what kind of techniques and tools can be used, what are the challenges faced by the development field and how the project managers delt those. Ms.M.F.Zaleeka, an Active Member of the club, played a role as Telecaster of this webinar series 03.
Project management students are the group who primarily benefited from this session. The 3rd webinar was successfully completed with more than 100 participants. This valuable webinar provided a considerable approach to the students to gain their knowledge in Disaster Management and Risk Reduction. Especially this webinar was helpful to the students to understand that how exactly the disaster risk reduction programs practically applied.
How to be an online entrepreneur by the Project Management Club
The Project Management Club conducted a webinar called “How to be an online entrepreneur” for undergraduate students of the Universities on 12th September 2021 via zoom platform. Mr.Madushka Dissanayake, Entrepreneur, Director/Shareholder at Proximo and AUKOD, Mr. Chamin Dias, Moderator of Online Entrepreneurs Club, Sri Lanka and Mr.Lasantha Wickramasinghe, Online Entrepreneur, Shareholder at Outsmart Hub HQ, Founder of Builtapps, were invited as Guest speakers for this virtual session. Topics such as “Introduction to online entrepreneurship”, ” How to start your online business journey”, ‘Why you should become as an online entrepreneur” and “From “Hustling” to “Entrepreneurship” and “Costly mistakes to avoid in your entrepreneurship journey” were presented by the speakers respectively. Ms.M.F.Zaleeka, an active member of the club played a role as Telecaster of this webinar series 02. Mrs.S. Mathivathany, Senior Advisor, Treasurer of the PM Club, played the role of the coordinator and moderator for this webinar. The primary purpose of this webinar was to know the various platforms for online money earnings while studying.
Further, a question session also was held, and feedbacks were received from the participants during the webinar time. It was made a higher value to the webinar series, and participants also got a clear idea about online entrepreneurship. This webinar was successfully completed with more than 300 participants. This valuable webinar provided a considerable approach to the students to gain their skills to be an entrepreneur and part-time jobs. Especially this webinar was helpful to the students to understand what exactly mean by online entrepreneurship, how to develop as an entrepreneur step by step. It was the most interesting via virtual platform during the pandemic situation.
Mother and Nature Photography Competition by the Project Management club
The Project Management Club of the University of Vavuniya, organized an open photography competition to celebrate World Youth Day on 12th of August 2021. The primary purpose of this competition was to encourage the students on photography and improve their creativity. The audience selected the winners by the voting systems in this competition. As the PM Club exco members planned, the winning prizes for the winners were rewarded by a reload like Rs.1000/=, Rs. 500/= and Rs.300/= for 1st place, 2″ place and 3″ place, respectively.
The announcement was given to the people through a poster via social media and a faculty website about the competition. The 315 photos all over the country were received, which were sent by competitors by 10th of August 2021. Once collected photos, the voting round was started until midnight of 11th of August 2021. Then, the 1″, 2″‘ and 351 places were announced on 126 of August 2021 according to the votes to their photos.

Webinar on “Career Guidelines and Placement in Accounting and Finance and the Role of CMA in career Advancement” by the Accounting and Finance Club
The “Accounting and Finance Club” conducted a Zoom webinar collaborating with the Certified Management Accountants (CMA) on 11th August 2021. At the outset, Dr. (Ms.) K. Kalainathan, Head of the Department of Finance and Accountancy and the club’s patron, welcomed the gathering and briefed about the resource person Prof Lakshman R. Watawala. The resource person gave a speech on the evolution of accounting during the past and modern eras and the role of professional bodies in shaping career. After that, Mr. Dhanuka Sirinama / Councilor of CMA, explained the role being played by CMA in redefining the career paths of the undergraduates. After that, Ms. Kawshalya Hapuarachchi / Education Manager of CMA, explained the exemptions offered by the CMA for the university students, followed by sharing the CMA contact details and ways of registering as a CMA student. Finally, Mr. M. S. A. Nushar / President of the Accounting and Finance Club delivered the vote of thanks. More than one hundred and fifty students participated in this webinar.
Tree plantation awareness programme ” Time to Think Let us prevent the Air Pollution” by the Human Resource Club
The HR Club conducted a sustainable community development programme “Time to Think, Let us prevent the Air Pollution”, on the 14th of July 2021, which insists on the importance of preventing air pollution and safeguarding the future generation. Around 60 students from the faculty., actively participated in this event. This In-door Tree planting campaign aims to address the multitude of issues associated with air pollution and restore the oxygen level at a considerable rate. Through this tree planting campaign, the HR club was able to attain the outcomes such as a learning opportunity to get youngsters involved in the environment and conservation of our natural resources. The members of HR Club planted the in-door plants including English ivy, Pot mom, Gerbera daisy. Holy basil, Aloe vera, Bamboo pal, Snake plant which are suggested by NASA as high Oxygen generators in their home gardens to raise awareness and consciousness about the environment among the masses.
“Awareness Talk on Covid-19 Vaccination” by the Students’ Union
The Students’ Union, Faculty of Business Studies, University of Vavuniya conducted an ‘Awareness Talk on Covid -19 Vaccination” via zoom for undergraduate students of the Universities and community people on 11th July 2021 via zoom platform. The main objective of this program was to allay the fears of the students and local people about the corona vaccine and to make them aware of the importance of getting the corona vaccine. The program was commenced by the talk of Mr. I.D.C. Ishara, the president of the Faculty Union. Prof. Giorgi Pkhakadze, School of Public Health, David Tvildiani Medical University (DTMU), Georgia and Consultant, who has been invited as Guest speaker for this virtual session. Further, Professor Madha Suresh, Director, Centre for Natural Hazards and Disaster Studies (CNHDS) the University of Madras was participated and delivered their experiences in India. Dr.Y. Nanthagopan, Dean, Faculty of Business Studies, shared the current Sri Lankan COVID situations and played a role as Coordinator for this virtual forum and provided encouragement and continuous support for the stakeholders. Further, a question session was also held, and feedbacks were received from the participants during the webinar time. It was made a higher value to the webinar series, and participants also got a clear idea about the importance of getting the corona vaccine. Awareness talk was successfully completed with more than 300 participants.
Lankabiwandana by Students’ Union
The Faculty of Business Studies Students’ Union celebrated the Adishtana Pooja on 24th June 2021. This Adishtana Pooja started at 6.30 pm on Poson Poya day in selected temples scattered in Sri Lanka to chant the glorious Rathana Sutta on the Poson Poya. The event was live telecasted on Facebook. With the noble intention of protecting Sri Lanka from the Corona plague in the country, the Buddhists joined in this ritual by lighting a coconut oil lamp in their homes and chanting the “Rathana Sutta”. Also, many people joined us in celebrating this auspicious event and contributed to the program’s success. We pray to God to give all the strength to our faculty, medical staff, the security forces, and the entire nation strength during the era of new normalcy.

A workshop titled “Facing an Interview and Curriculum Vitae Preparation” by Accounting and Finance Club
The “Accounting and Finance Club” conducted a webinar on 30th June 2021 at 2.00 pm via Zoom. This webinar was brought to order by the Club President, Mr. M. S. A. Nushar. Around one hundred and fifty students participated in this webinar. Mr. Saman Jayasinghe and Mr. Anton Mathan Raj from the Vavuniya Apparels of Omega Line Ltd were the resource persons. Mr. Saman Jayasinghe explained the career goals and paths covering attitude and build a career with knowledge and skills since these are of paramount importance for undergraduates to take forward their life after graduation. After that, Mr. Anton Mathan Raj presented “Facing an interview and curriculum vitae preparation,” covering formatting and spacing guidelines, what to include in a CV, how to face the interview, and common interview questions. Afterward, the participants were requested to raise their queries. Finally, Mr. M. S. A. Nushar delivered the vote of thanks and placed his gratitude to Mrs. J. S. The Project Management Club of the Department of Project Management in Vavuniya Campus of the University of Jaffna conducted a webinar called LAND PERFECT INTERNSHIP for Project Management students on 27th June 2021 at 9.30 am via zoom platform. Webinar on Career Development by Econ Club
The Econ Club of the Department of Business Economics organized a webinar on Career Development on 20.06.2021 at 9.00 am. Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernanddo (Senior Lecturer, Department of Accounting, University of Sri Jayewardenepura) was invited as a Resource Person for the webinar. Approximately 80 students participated in this forum. The aim of this webinar is to develop students’ professional development after graduation and how to face the challenges. Tree planting awareness by PM Club
To celebrate the world day to combat decertification and drought, the tree plantation program was conducted on 17th June 2021 by the Project Management Club of the Department of Project Management, Vavuniya Campus of the University of Jaffna. Through this planting ceremony, 2021 trees were expected to be planted in all over the country. Dr.Y. Nanthagopan, Dean, Faculty of Business Studies, officially started this program in his home garden. Followed by Mr.Thirugnanasampanthar, Head, Department of Project Management and Mrs.S. Mathivathany, Senior Advisor/ Treasurer planted trees in their gardens. Then, the other members of the Project Management Club and well-wishers started the plantation program.
Especially, all the Project Management students and their families actively joined in the tree plantation event and completed it successfully. As decided by the organizing committee, the plantation program was implemented by planting one tree in their home gardens by all the project management students. As the Project Management Club expected, there was an active involvement of project management students and their relations. Through this plantation program, the project management dub gained great motivation to implement more valuable programs and gave great awareness to people regarding climate change and environmental problems like decertification and drought.
Feeding the wandering Animals and Birds during the Covid-19 Pandemic Situation by Marketing Club
The Marketing Club of the Faculty of Business Studies has initiated and organized the project on “Feeding the wandering animals and birds during this Covid-19 Pandemic situation” with the help of Marketing Management Honors Degree students. A lot of animals and birds arc wandering to get their prey and are still struggling and dying day by day. To serve those animals and birds, the Marketing Club has organized this huge project initially with our students. The students fed the animals and birds near to their homes and streets for one week from 1st June to 7th June 2021. And now the marketing club is in the process of promoting the same among the rest by sharing the attractive banner via social media networks.
Webinar on “Strengthening the online learning environment during the Covid 19 pandemic” by HR Club
The HR Club of the Department of Human Resource Management conducted an online workshop on “Strengthening the online learning environment during the covid 19 pandemic” for the Faculty of Business Studies undergraduates on 18th of May 2021 from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm. Around 71 students from the Faculty of Business Studies actively participated in this event. The session was both informative and exciting, and it could be observed that most of the participants of this workshop and it useful not only for their learning but also for managing their personal life as well.
Iftar Celebration
The Iftar, one of the important cultural events of Muslims worldwide, was celebrated by the Muslim students of the Faculty of Business Studies on 15.04.2021 in the Balakrishnan Block of the Faculty of Business Studies. The students from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year took part in it. Ms. M. R. F. Aqeela Ijas, Lecturer in Human Resource Management, participated as a special guest and made the event a resounding success. The Faculty of Business Studies students celebrate the Iftar every year to create religious harmony among the diversified religious societies in the Vavuniya Campus. Muslims worldwide fasting during Ramadan because Sawm (fasting) is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. And since they fast for over 14/15 hours a day, only two meals are consumed. The pre-dawn meal is called Sahar, and the one consumed at dusk is called Iftar. All adult Muslims except those who are ill, the elderly, and pregnant/breastfeeding: menstruating women fast during the month of Ramadan.
Cultural Program 2021
The cultural programme of 2021 of the Faculty of Business Studies was held on 15.04.2021 at 1.00 pm. at Lecture Hall 01. The purposes of this programme were to identify and develop the skills of first-year batch students and strengthen the cooperation and relationship among the four batches in the Faculty of Business Studies. The students filled the stage with a variety of programmes, especially a handful of individual performances. The cultural programmes had brought out a long list of talented students with such incredible talents and skills. Both the students and the staff enjoyed the program very well. The programme was well organized and carried out by the 2017/2018 batch students of the Faculty of Business Studies.

Organ Donation Camp

Thai Pongal
Farmers around the world celebrate the Thai Pongal festival. It is delegated to the god sun for thanksgiving to help farmers in their agriculture. Faculty of Business Studies students celebrated the Pongal function in front of the Balakrishnan block on 14.01.2021. Preparation of the traditional Pongal is one of the essential aspects of this celebration: a bowl of sweet rice with milk. The students well made the Pongal rice and traditionally worshiped the sun and shared their spirituality, love, wishes, and happiness among them.
Christmas Celebration
Christmas is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, observed primarily on December 25th as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people worldwide. Faculty of Business Studies students celebrated the Christmas function in the hostel premises at midnight on 24.12.2020, and all students joyfully participated in this festival. The hostel premises were decorated attractively, and the students sang melodious carols to welcome the birth of Jesus Christ. The limitless delight of praising the celebration was noticeable on the faces of all the students.

Navarathiri festival, organized by the Students’ Union of the Faculty, was held on 25th October 2020 in the Faculty of Business Studies. The objective of this event is to enrich the religious and social harmony among the students.
Donating COVID-19 Pandemic Aid to the Cleaning service
The Catholic Society of the Faculty donated groceries to the cleaning service members in the Faculty during the COVID-19 pandemic, that was held on 23rd September 2020 at the Faculty of Business Studies. This is an exemplary event that generates social concerns and humanity among the youngsters regarding the ongoing issues.
Career Guidance and Awareness programme
Career guidance and Awareness programme for Professional Certificate in Marketing (PCM) for the undergraduate students of the faculty offered Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM), was held on 26th August 2020. Mr. Naazim Seiyed, Managing Director, International Academy of Professional Studies (IAPS), was the resource person. There were 120 students from all streams in the Faculty of Business Studies participated.
Clergy Almsgiving at Batticaloa
The clergy Almsgiving (Dhaana), organized by the Buddhist Committee of the Faculty, was held on 22nd August 2020 in Batticaloa. The purpose of this event is to cultivate generosity and amity among the students. It involves students in an act of virtue and generates humanity and kindness.
Kavi Bana
Kavi bana Programme organized by the Buddhist Committee of the Faculty was held on 29th of January 2020. The purpose of this event is to disseminate peace and piety among students.
Light festival
Light festival organized by the Catholic Society, Faculty of Business Studies was held on 22nd of January 2020. The aim of this event is to pursue religious observance and cultivate goodwill and amity among students.
Thai Pongal Festival
Thai Pongal festival organized by Hindu Society of the Faculty was held on 15th of January 2020. The objective of this event is to enrich cultural heritage among students.
