Well-being First Webinar
As the Econ Club, under the Health and safety practices program, we conducted this webinar program on 16th August 2023 from 1.00p.m to 2.00p.m in SH 4 Hall, for all the students of the Faculty of Business Studies. The purpose of this program is that well been of the students ,mentally and physically. The name of the webinar is Well Being First and the resource person was MR.Sujan Sugumaran, who is the medical student and lecturer ,of Faculty of medicine, University of Colombo. Students learned a lot of things through this program and those things help them to build up physical and mental wellbeing of the students.
A/L Economics Past paper discussion
A /L Economics Past papers discussion program “Economic Insights – 2023” is conducted by second year econ club members, they were doing this program from 10th of August to 28th of August, after editing they announced this program through WhatsApp and Econ Club Facebook page.
The purpose of this program is to help high school students who are looking for solutions for A/L past papers, who find it difficult to go to paper class, and we think that through this program they will be able to gain some knowledge for their studies and every discussion lesson. And we hope to continue this program every year. For this, we got the guidance of Dr. N. Ravinthirakumaran, senior lecturer and senior treasure of the Econ club, and the president of P.K.G.A.Nayanakanthi. Also we were able to do this program successfully.

Stationary items donation program
Under the community works the Econ club donated stationary items (Books, Pencils, Erasers, Colour Pencils, Pencil cases and School bags) to the students of Selvavinayaga Vidayalam in Vauniya. Our purpose is, help to poor children and schools to develop the students’ education and build up successful people in Sri Lanka.
With the active Participation and contribution of the club members and lecturers of the Econ club we successfully donated the items to the students on the 9th of August 2023 from 11.30 p.m. to 1.30 p.m. at the school of Selvavinayaga Vidayalam in Vauniya. Dr. N. Ravinthirakumaran, senior lecturer and senior treasure of the Econ club, Mr. Anton , Assistant lecturer , Miss. Harshani Herath Assistant lecturer ,President of the Econ club ,P.K.G.A.Nayanakanthi, and 10 Exco – members participated to this event. As well as we have used Funds from the econ Club to do this activity.
Food Festival
As the fundraising program in Econ Club, we conducted a FOOD FESTIVAL on the 27th of July in 2023 at the Business Studies Faculty premises from 11.00 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. Dean,Faculty of Business Studies, Mrs. Paulina Godwin Philip,Senior lecturer Dr.N. Ravinthirakumaran and other lecturers participated .
There were many types of foods we had sold at this festival and all the food was prepared by the econ club students themselves. Though this event developed the student’s creativity and also teamwork. With the active participation and contribution of the Economic Club members and students of University of Vauniya we successfully achieved RS.50 700 profit as we planned
We successfully completed this program with all the club members and lecturers’ support.
Books swap program
Book exchange program was held on 27th July 2023 at Department of the Business Economics from 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm. The aim of this program is to assist our juniors to collect notes and papers from their seniors and to enhance mutual support between students of all years.
Econ Club Exco members have collected notes from those willing to give their notes for the Juniors from July 6 to July 25, 2023. Finally, we were able to do this program with the support of all the members of Econ Club.
Awareness program
The Econ club of the Department of Business Economics organized an awareness program on the 19th of July 2023 in the BH2 hall.at 12.30-1.30 p.m. to explain what the opportunities available for the B.B.M. Hons in Business Economics degree program. As well as, challenges and how to overcome those challenges. All the members of the second-year, third-year and fourth-year students participated in this program.
At this event, Mrs. P. Godwin Phillip, Head of the Department of Business Economics did an introductory speech, and Dr. N. Ravinthirakumaran spoke on specific content such as the importance of university education and getting to know a wider variety of people, Furthermore, President of econ club Miss.P.K.G.A.Nayanakanthi conducted a speech for the students regrades the benefits of the Degree program.
Develop students entrepreneurial creation ideas through social media platform
The way of doing this activity
Steps

  • Firstly, we created the post for that who are doing small business in our University and after that we collected their information and asked their ideas.
  • However some students had stopped their small business, but through our awareness and encouragement they start their small business again.
  • Most of the things they are doing online plat form and, so we collected their information and share through our Whatsapp groups and our Facebook page.

Tot Bag Sell
Econ club has organized a tot bag selling programme to encourage the young euntrepreneurs as well as to increase our club fund between July and August. From this activity we earned RS:9000 by selling 60 bags for Rs.550 and we buy a bag Rs.400 from S.G.A.D.Nawarathna ( 2019/BS/85) who is entrepreneur of the who is we have found.
Drug Prevention Webinar
As the Econ Club, under the Health and Safety Practices program, we conducted this webinar program on 15th May 2023 from 12.30p.m to 1.30p.m in SH 4 Hall, for all the students of the Faculty of Business Studies. The purpose of this program is that prevent the youth from drug abuse. The name of the webinar is Save the Future Generation and the resource person was Mr. M.M.G.B.M.Rashad, who is the North and East province coordinator, of National Dangerous Drugs, Control Board, Ministry of Defence. Students learned a lot of things through this program and those things help them to protect their life from drugs.
Clothe drive – donation (PART 2)
Econ club has collected clothes and Shoes for donate them for the cleaning staff of the University of Vauniya on 2nd March 2023 at 12.30-1.30 pm at BH 3 hall.The project was going on as the second part of the cloth drive program. Dr. Y. Nanthagopan, Dean, Faculty of Business Studies, Mrs. Paulina Godwin Phillip, Head, Department of Business Economics, Dr. N. Ravinthirakumaran, senior lecturer and senior treasure of the Econ club, senior lecturer, Mr. Thayaparan Arupillai, and all the club members participated for this program.
Cloth Drive team had received more than 100 clothes and few pairs of shoes from lectures and students after the first cloth drive –donation program.. Therefor we donated second cloth stock for the cleaning service staff and we were able to give 20 packages for the staff members. Because is that they are doing very good service for our University and through this program we were able to encourage them. So as the result of this program we could be able to increase our club value.
Corn selling program
As the first fundraising program in Econ Club, a corn sale project was organized by the Econ club on Wednesday, 25th January 2023 at 10.30 a.m. outside the canteen of the Faculty of Business Studies.Dr. Y. Nanthagopan, Dean of Business Studies, Mrs. Paulina Godwin Philip, Head, Department of Business Economics and the senior lecturers, Dr N. Ravinthirakumaran, Mr. A. Thayaparan, and other lecturers participated and supported our project enthusiastically. Economic Club members and students at the University of Vavuniya actively participated and contributed to our success in achieving Rs.12,220 profit.

CBSL webinar on public debt management by Econ club
The Econ club organized a webinar on “Public debt management” on 25th of August 2022, through the Microsoft Teams platform. The webinar was given by Ms. Fernando LS, Regional office- Kilinochchi, Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Mrs. Paulina Godwin Philip, Senior lecturer, and the Head, Department of Business Economics chaired the session and delivered welcome address. Ms. Fernando LS delivered a lecture on the topic “Public Debt Management”. She explained about the importance of public debt management etc. She specifically focused on Government securities market, and Government debt. At the end of the webinar Ms. R. Thulashika, Kilinochchi Regional office delivered the vote of thanks.
EDU-AID seminar for advanced level commerce stream students by Econ Club
The Econ club organized an Edu -Aid seminar in Economics on 13th of October 2022 (Thursday) between from 8:30 am to 01 :30 pm, at the smart classroom of Vavuniya Tamil Mathiya Maha Vidhyalayam . The discussion in this seminar was given by Mr Madhushankar, 4th year student from the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Vavuniya. Miss. Subapriya Mohanaraja president of the Econ club, Department of Business Economics chaired the session and Mr. A. Thayaparan, Senior lecturer, Department of Business Economics delivered the welcome address. Mr . Madhushankar discussed an economic model paper with students. He discussed 50 MCQ questions with the students. Hard copies of the model papers were given by the club to the students.
We received good responses from the students and staff. Also, they gave very good feedback. The teacher and school student representative thanked the Econ club for arranging Sumadura DhammaCeremony2022byStudents’Union the seminar. At the end of the seminar Mr T. Sathiyaseelan, The Sumadura dhamma ceremony was organized by an Advanced Level Economic teacher, V.T.M.M. V delivered students’ Union, Faculty of Business Studies on 14th the vote of thanks. He thanked the resource person, club November 2022 from 7.00p.m to 9.00p.m in LH 1, Faculty members, participants, and other officials for their active of Business Studies, University of Vavuniya. Support in making the program to be successful.
Clothe drive – donation by Econ Club
Econ club has collected cloths and shoes for “Cloth Drive” donation program 01/Sep/2022- 15/oct/2022 between 9.30 AM to 3.30 PM during week days, at Business Economics Department. Econ club distributed leaflets within the Faculty of Business Studies lecturers and students.Cloth Drive team had received more than 150 cloths and few pair of shoes/sandals from lectures and students. 35 packages had made by Econ club and ready to distribute 20 families in Poovarsankulam, Veerapuram, Arbathnagar, Settikulam, pambaimadu and Salambaikulam area.Highlight of event “Collection and Package of cloths to needy people”

    1. Cloth drive team visit the project areas, took measurements for collection of cloths.
    2. Families registered for distribution of cloths.
    3. Cloth Drive team collected clothes and make package for distribution.
      • Inside package Each package includes two ladies dresses, two shirts, two kids’ dresses, one pair of sandal/ slipper/ shoe.
