FQAC Profile
The Faculty Quality Assurance Cell (FQAC) of the Faculty of Business Studies (FBS), University of Vavuniya, is an internal academic quality body established in accordance with the quality assurance guidelines and circulars issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Sri Lanka and the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Council (QAC). It operates within the broader quality assurance framework mandated for Sri Lankan higher education institutions, which emphasizes continuous improvement in academic standards, teaching-learning processes, and stakeholder satisfaction across faculties.
The FQAC is established to facilitate systematic quality assurance practices at faculty level and to ensure that the academic programmes, teaching & learning, assessment, and administrative processes of the Faculty meet the national standards of quality and relevance set by the UGC and related frameworks such as the Sri Lanka Qualification Framework (SLQF). It supports the creation of a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and transparency that enhances student outcomes and aligns with institutional and national objective.
Objectives of the FQAC
a. Promote a culture of quality assurance within the Faculty, ensuring that business education aligns with national guidelines and international best practices.
b. Ensure that the Faculty’s procedures comply with the requirements of the QAC of the UGC and other relevant authorities.
c. Develop and maintain a favourable public perception of the Faculty through consistent practice of quality assurance procedures, thereby enhancing the quality of business education.
d. Support the Faculty in preparing for external quality assurance assessments and accreditation requirements specific to business disciplines.
e. Offer guidance and assistance to departments in defining programme objectives and outcomes, graduate profiles and course curricula in accordance with national reference points such as the SLQF and Subject Benchmark Statements.
Functions of the FQAC
Plan, organise, develop, facilitate and monitor all quality assurance activities within the Faculty and report progress monthly to the Faculty Board.
Liaise regularly with the Dean of the Faculty and the Director/Coordinator of the CQA of the University.
Administer student surveys/feedback and peer observations and ensure that findings are communicated to relevant stakeholders.
Facilitate the identification and sharing of good practices between departments and coordinate faculty level awareness programmes on quality assurance.
Assist the Dean and the CQA in incorporating quality assurance into the corporate plan and establishing bylaws.
Coordinate QA reviews/audits, follow up actions, and prepare Faculty Self Evaluation Reports (SERs) for programme/institutional reviews.
Support departments in aligning course curricula with the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SLQF) and Subject Benchmark Statements.
Develop a repository of evidence at the faculty level for QA reviews, and prepare an annual work plan for all QA activities.
