Department of English Language Teaching
On 18th December 2017, the Department of English Language Teaching was established. It provides English Language Teaching services at the undergraduate level and in English Language research. According to the Standing Committee on Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) of the University Grants Commission (UGC), though it is part of the Faculty of Business Studies (FBS), it has the mandate to serve the students of the whole Campus. The Vision says ‘To provide an integrated English education through the development of lingual, literary, intellectual and research skills of students to meet the contemporary global requirements.’ The Mission says ‘To ensure the graduation of proactive individuals in English competence and performance.’ A Computer Assisted Language Teaching Lab (CALL) has been serving the needs of the students.
The DELT broadens and expands the students’ proficiency and knowledge in General English, English Linguistics, English Literature and Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL); develops the students’ English Language skills following the Subject Bench Marks pertaining to University Test of English Language (UTEL); trains the internal and external students in using English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and English for Specific or Professional Purposes (ESP). At the FBS, it conducts the courses such as Proficiency in English (six semesters) and English for Business Communication (two semesters).
