The Faculty of Business Studies students celebrate the Iftar every year to create religious harmony among the diversified religious societies in the Vavuniya Campus. Muslims worldwide fasting during Ramadan because Sawm (fasting) is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. And since they fast for over 14/15 hours a day, only two meals are consumed. The pre-dawn meal is called Sahar, and the one consumed at dusk is called Iftar. All adult Muslims except those who are ill, the elderly, and pregnant/breastfeeding/menstruating women fast during the month of Ramadan.
