Report on the Creative Work of the HR Club \u2013 Eco-Friendly Pen Holders<\/strong><\/p>\n

The HR Club of the department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Business Studies successfully completed a creative initiative focused on sustainability by designing and producing eco-friendly pen holders on 13th and 14th of August 2025. This project was organized with the dual purpose of fostering student creativity and promoting environmental responsibility within the faculty.
\nThe primary objective of this activity was to:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Encourage students to develop innovative ideas while being conscious of environmental sustainability.<\/li>\n
  • Demonstrate the possibility of creating useful products from recyclable and biodegradable materials.<\/li>\n
  • Cultivate creativity, teamwork, and social responsibility among the members of the HR Club.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Members of the HR Club collected and utilized recycled and natural materials such as cardboard, bamboo, coconut shells, and biodegradable resources to create pen holders that are both functional and aesthetically appealing.
    \nThe process involved collaborative teamwork, idea generation, and hands-on crafting, allowing students to apply their innovative thinking in a practical context while also raising awareness about the importance of reducing waste and reusing available resources. The outcome of this project was a collection of unique and durable pen holders that not only serve everyday academic needs but also symbolize the club\u2019s commitment to integrating green practices into student activities.
    \nThese eco-friendly pen holders were then sold to lecturers of the faculty, receiving positive feedback and appreciation, and the project also served as a small-scale income generation activity to support the future initiatives of the HR Club. This initiative has further strengthened the culture of creativity and sustainability among students, provided them with experiential learning opportunities, and set a positive example for promoting eco-friendly practices within the Faculty of Business Studies..

Community Engagement Initiative (Navajothi Pre-School, Thalikkulam)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The HR Club of the department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Business Studies carried out a meaningful community engagement initiative on 13th of August 2025, by providing lunch boxes and water bottles to the students of Navajothi Pre-School, Thalikkulam. This activity was organized with the primary objective of supporting the children while strengthening the bond between the faculty and the local community. The lunch boxes and water bottles were generously donated by Ms.Mathusha Croos, a 4th-year student of the HRM Degree Programme, reflecting the spirit of individual social responsibility within the student body.
\nThe HR Club members actively coordinated the distribution process and personally handed over the items to the pre-school students, ensuring that each child received a lunch box and a water bottle. Beyond meeting a practical need, the activity was designed to instill values of care, generosity and community service among the members of the HR Club, who were directly involved in both planning and execution.
\nThe parents and staff of Navajothi Pre-School expressed their deep appreciation for this thoughtful contribution. By engaging in such outreach activities, the HR Club continues to demonstrate its commitment to community service, aligning its efforts with the broader vision of the Faculty of Business Studies to promote student engagement, civic responsibility and sustainable community partnerships.

The seminar encouraged active discussion, allowing students to clarify doubts and deepen their understanding of gender-related legal issues. This initiative not only enriched students\u2019 knowledge but also inspired them to promote fairness, inclusivity, and respect in their future professional environments.

The interactive Q&A segment allowed students to clarify concepts and explore practical applications, making the webinar both highly educational and relevant to the evolving HR landscape.

Report on the Webinar on Literature Review Writing for Final Year Students of Faculty of Business Studies <\/strong><\/p>\n

The HR Club organized a Webinar on Literature Review Writing for final-year students on 19th September 2024, led by Dr. Bindu Nandakumar Menon, Associate Professor from Chhatrapati Shahu Institute of Business Education and Research who is an expert in research methodology. The purpose of the webinar was to guide students through the essential steps of writing a literature review, a critical component of their final-year theses is projects. Dr. Bindu began by explaining the purpose and importance of literature reviews in academic research, emphasizing their role in identifying research gaps and shaping the direction of research studies. She then discussed various types of literature reviews, such as narrative and systematic reviews, providing students with clear distinctions between them. The webinar also included a step-by-step guide on how to search for relevant academic sources, critically evaluate them, and synthesize the findings into a cohesive narrative. Dr. Bindu also shared practical tips on structuring the review and maintaining academic rigor while avoiding common pitfalls such as plagiarism.
\nAn interactive Q&A session followed, where students asked questions about challenges they face in their literature reviews, such as handling large volumes of information and dealing with conflicting research findings. Dr. Bindu offered tailored advice to help students overcome these obstacles. Report on the Training of Trainers (ToT) Program for University Students on Drug Prevention <\/strong><\/p>\n

The HR Club successfully conducted a Training of Trainers (ToT) Program on Drug Prevention aimed for HR Specialization students. The programme held on 12th and 13th of September 2024, the program focused on equipping students with the knowledge and skills to deliver effective drug prevention education to younger audiences in schools. This initiative is part of a larger effort to combat drug abuse by empowering students to act as ambassadors of drug prevention in their communities.The training program was conducted at BH2, Faculty of Business Studies with 15 university students participating from HR Department. The sessions were facilitated by experienced professionals from District Secretariat. The program covered a comprehensive curriculum on drug prevention, including the causes and effects of drug abuse, prevention strategies, and the role of education in curbing substance abuse. In addition to theoretical knowledge, participants engaged in practical exercises such as scenario-based learning, which helped them develop effective communication and presentation skills.
\nThroughout the program, the participants displayed great enthusiasm and a strong commitment to the cause. The interactive nature of the training allowed students to ask questions and engage in discussions, fostering a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding drug abuse and the best practices in prevention. By the end of the training, the participants were confident in their ability to deliver drug prevention education to school students.
\nAs a follow-up, the trained students will participate in Phase Two of the project, where they will visit local youths in their respective communities to conduct workshops on drug prevention, applying the skills and knowledge gained from this program. This cascading model of knowledge dissemination ensures a broader impact as more students are reached and educated on drug prevention.
\nIn conclusion, the Training of Trainers Program was a significant success, fulfilling its goal of preparing university students to take an active role in combating drug abuse through education. The HR Club is committed to supporting these trainers as they move forward in the second phase of this initiative, ensuring a sustained and positive impact on the community.<\/p>\n

The HR Club recently organized a field visit for its students to Omega Line Vavuniya Apparels, a leading garment manufacturing company, to provide practical insights into the apparel industry and human resource management practices in a large-scale operation. The visit took place on 7th September 2024, with 70 students from Final Year and Third Year participating. This initiative aimed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world HR applications by offering students exposure to key HR processes, employee engagement practices, health and safety measures and operational strategies in the apparel sector.
\nUpon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by the HR Manager and team and given an overview of Omega Line\u2019s operations, including its workforce management, production processes, and the company’s approach to sustainability and employee welfare. The students had the opportunity to tour the manufacturing floor, where they observed the workflow, quality control measures, and safety protocols in action. This experience highlighted the importance of HR in maintaining efficient production lines, ensuring employee satisfaction, and adhering to labor laws and international standards.
\nDuring a Q&A session, students engaged with the HR Manager and HR team to discuss topics such as talent acquisition, training and development programs, performance management, and workplace diversity. The HR Manager shared their strategies for retaining a skilled workforce in a competitive industry and emphasized the importance of creating a positive work culture.
\nOverall, the field visit was a valuable learning experience for the HR Club students, offering them a deeper understanding of how HR functions are integrated into large-scale operations like Omega Line Vavuniya Apparels. The visit reinforced theoretical knowledge from their studies and inspired the students to consider future roles in industries that value both employee welfare and operational efficiency.<\/p>\n

The HR Club recently held a successful T-shirt distribution event aimed at promoting club identity, enhancing member engagement, and fostering a sense of belonging among its members. The event took place on 4th September 2024 at Department of Human Resource Management where a total of 64 T-shirts were distributed to both student and staff members. The T-shirts, featuring the HR Club logo and Department and University Names were available in various sizes to accommodate all participants. To ensure a smooth process, attendees registered upon arrival and received their T-shirts at designated counters based on size. The overall feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with most of them expressing satisfaction with the event. The T-shirt distribution not only strengthened the club’s visibility on university but also will help in enhancing the networking opportunities through a unified club appearance at future events. Overall, the T-shirt distribution successfully contributed to building a unified and engaged HR Club community. This event has set a great precedent for future member engagement activities and continues to strengthen the HR Club’s community spirit.<\/p>\n

Report on Providing Dry Rations to the cleaning staff <\/strong>

The HR Club of the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Vavuniya, initiated a project to provide dry rations to the cleaning staff of the university on 22nd August 2024. The primary objective of the project was to offer tangible support and express appreciation to the cleaning staff, acknowledging their indispensable contribution to the university community. The HR Club purchased dry rations that included rice, lentils, wheat flour, sugar, Milk Powder and other essential food items and also the club members volunteered to package the rations into individual packs for easy distribution. A formal distribution event was organized at the BH2 Lecture Hall at Faculty of Business Studies on 22nd August 2024 at 1.30 pm. The cleaning staff were invited to the event, where each received a package of dry rations. The project successfully provided dry rations to 27 cleaning staff members. The project of providing dry rations to the cleaning staff was a resounding success. It not only provided much-needed support but also strengthened the relationship between students, faculty, and the essential workers of the university. The HR Club extends its heartfelt thanks to all the donors, volunteers, and university administration for their support in making this project possible. Special appreciation goes to the cleaning staff for their unwavering dedication and service to the university. The HR Club plans to continue such initiatives in the future, aiming to contribute positively to the well-being of the university community<\/p>\n

The seminar on “Challenges and Opportunities for Management Graduates” was held on 21st August 2024 at smart lecture hall, Faculty of Technological Studies. The event was organized by HR Club, Department of Human Resource Management and attended by students of the Faculty of Business Studies.<\/p>\n

The objective of the seminar was to provide insights into the opportunities and threats available to the undergraduates when pursuing their future ambitions and equip graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the complexities of their future. The seminar was conducted by the Ms. B. Shanmugarajah [(BA (Hons) in Psychology, Dip in Counselling, MPhil reading in Psychology] and facilitated by Mr. Jerad Milvinfrom from the Royal Academy of Professional Studies.<\/p>\n

The seminar also included interactive sessions where participants were engaged with each other as teams and played many management related games. These sessions were highly informative and allowed students to ask questions about, challenges they might face, and how to prepare for them. The seminar on “Challenges and Opportunities for Management Graduates\u201d provided valuable insights into the understanding of own self and equipped attendees with practical advice for navigating their future careers. HR Club has initiated a Sugar Cane Juice Stall on 6th April 2024 during the Avurudu Festival of Faculty of Business Studies. Juices are the perfect drink to kick start a day. It doesn’t get any healthier than to start a day with freshly squeezed juice. Juices are always refreshing and people love them through different weathers. HR Club has initiated a Sugar Cane Juice Stall especially in this summer season with the aim of providing more hydrating juices to provide adequate vitamins and minerals that can boost immunity of the people. The juice stall was started from 10.30 am onwards.<\/p>\n

The students and staffs along with their family members have enjoyed this event and tasted the sugar cane juice which is being made freshly by squeezing the sugar cane. The combination of the sugar cane\u2019s sweetness and the tangy hint of lemon has created a delightful taste that instantly transported attendees to a tropical paradise. The Sugar Cane Juice Stall was a resounding success event that have provided a unique enjoyable experience for the participants. The HR Club, Department of Human Resource Management, successfully organized the “Vocalist of the Year 2024” musical competition from March 2024 to April 2024, showcasing exceptional vocal talent from across the world. The event attracted a large number of participants and was designed to encourage participants to express their creativity and passion for music. Each participant showcased unique musical styles, from classical to contemporary, captivating the audience with their performances.
\nIn the first round the songs were displayed in the HR Club YouTube and based on the likes they get from the audience best singers were selected. Then in the Second round, the judges evaluated contestants based on vocal technique and overall performance quality. After a series of outstanding performances, Ms. N. Mathurangani, Final Year Student, Department of Human Resource Management was crowned “Vocalist of the Year 2024”, with Ms. K. Sadhurshika and Ms. M. Kovarthani receiving runners up recognition for their performances. The winners were awarded with certificates of appreciation. The competition not only provided a platform for talented students to shine but also fostered a sense of community and celebration of the arts within the department. The “Vocalist of the Year 2024” competition was a resounding success, leaving both participants and the audience eagerly awaiting next year\u2019s edition.<\/p>\n

The major aim of this workshop is to introduce and familiarize the Canva tool for the students to use that tool to make interactive presentations and enhance their presentation and poster making skills. This webinar has given practical exposure and insights to the students to handle the Canva tool to make more effective, interactive and creative presentation slides and posters for their academic purposes.<\/p>\n

Further, the resource person has also explained on the basics of graphic designing and elements to be considered before designing the presentation slides and posters. In-addition the resource person has also explained on making an attractive Curriculum Vitae for the students using FlowCV application in a brief manner. The students were actively participating in the session and practically designing the presentation slides and posters and taking part in the discussions. On the whole, the session was very interesting and informative and given an opportunity for the students to learn a new digital base tool to enhance their presentation skills and confidence in doing the presentations and creating a social media presence as well.<\/p>\n

\nThe Coconut Kulukki Juice Stall event held near the BS Canteen on 16th August 2023 was a delightful and refreshing experience that brought a tropical twist to the campus. Organized by the HR Club, in collaboration with the HR Club and the Department of Human Resource Management (HRM) under the Faculty of Business Studies (FBS) at university of vavuniya, the event aimed to provide a natural and delicious treat to beat the heat.

\nThe event featured a vibrant and inviting setup, adorned with palm leaves and coconuts to set the tropical ambiance. The stall proudly displayed Notice and tender coconuts creating a sense of excitement and anticipation among attendees.

\nFrom 12.30 PM onwards, the stall started serving up its star attraction – the coconut kulukki juice. Made from fresh and natural coconuts, the juice provided a cool and rejuvenating experience for all participants. \nThe HR Club of the Department of HRM at the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Vavuniya, organized a grooming noon event for both females and males. The event was held on 19th July, 2023 at the Sabaratnam Block of the Faculty of Business Studies from 1.30 to 4.30 p.m. The purpose of this event is to make everyone groomed and make them pleasant with their good looking.
\nServices Offered:<\/strong>
\nThe customers who attended the grooming noon event were offered a range of beauty services. For females, the services included cleanup & threading, facials, hair spa, hair cut & hair care, and waxing. For males, the services included are haircut and hair styles. \u2018Suji & Raji\u2019 Beauticians from Vavuniya offered services for females and \u2018Kiravun Salon\u2019 from Vavuniya provided services for males.

\nThe grooming noon event was held in a convenience hall with ample seating arrangements for the customers. The clients were greeted by the HR Club members and were escorted to their seats. The seating arrangements were separately arranged for males and females. The beauticians and the salon barbers then consulted with each client to understand their requirements and offered customized beauty services accordingly.
\nThe event was well-organized, and the clients were served promptly. The HR Club members ensured that the clients were comfortable throughout the event. The beauticians were professional and skilled in their work and the clients were satisfied with the services provided.

The HR Club conducted a sustainable community development programme \u201cTime to Think, let us prevent the Air Pollution\u201d, on the 14th of July 2021, which insists on the importance of preventing air pollution and safeguarding the future generation. Around 60 students from the faculty, actively participated in this event. This In-door Tree planting campaign aims to address the multitude of issues associated with air pollution and restore the oxygen level at a considerable rate. Through this tree planting campaign, the HR club was able to attain the outcomes such as a learning opportunity to get youngsters involved in the environment and conservation of our natural resources.
\nThe members of HR Club planted the in-door plants including English ivy, Pot mom, Gerbera daisy, Holy basil, Aloe vera, Bamboo pal, Snake plant which are suggested by NASA as high Oxygen generators in their home gardens to raise awareness and consciousness about the environment among the masses.<\/p>\n

The HR Club conducted an online workshop on “Strengthening the online learning environment during the COVID-19 19 pandemic” for the Faculty of Business Studies undergraduates on 18th of May 2021. Around 71 students from the Faculty of Business Studies actively participated in this event. DR. Sanduruwan Bandara Herath, the Consultant Anesthetic and intensivist at district general hospital Mullaitivu and DR. Dhanoja Wijesinghe, the Consultant Psychiatrist at district general hospital, Mullaitivu, were the Resource persons for this event.
\nDR. Sanduruwan Bandara Herath preceded the first session of this workshop, and in this session, a clear understanding of the online learning environment was given by him. At the end of this session, the students have gained knowledge on creating a conducive online learning environment to help them in their learning progress. The next session was on Stress Management, and DR. Dhanoja Wijesinghe conducted this. From this session, the students gained a comprehensive understanding of stress, and the students were given guidance to manage their stress effectively. Overall, the session was both informative and exciting, and it could be observed that most of the participants of this workshop find it useful not only for their learning but also for managing their personal life as well.<\/p>\n

A workshop on \u201cImproving Presentation Skills\u201d was conducted by the HR Club on 24.02 2021 at the Balakrishnan Block. Ms. M. R. F. Aqeela Ijas, Lecturer (Probationary) in HRM, was the resource person, and Human Resource Management specialization students have participated. This workshop’s primary objective is to enhance the ability of the students to do the presentation effectively. The workshop focused on how to prepare an effective presentation and which kinds of follow-ups should be carried out to make a presentation more appealing. The students were provided with knowledge on do’s and don’ts while preparing a presentation.<\/p>\n
